Glashutte Original SeaQ Review

Glashutte Original, a German company known for rich and traditional watches, launched a surprising collection of watches in 2019. Glashutte Original collections have the manufacturing of reliable watches for the sea, air, and land explorers. Glashutte Original SeaQ collection is a well known diver-inspired sports watch that has a number of traditional features that the watch collection was inspired by. Glashutte Original brand is a well known German watch company that has a lot of history.

Glashutte Original has a history reaching back from 1845. This was the year the first master watchmakers settled in Glashutte. Glashutte has a very strong tradition of the study of time which is also called horological education, that dates back to 1878 when the German School of Watchmaking was opened. Today, the school is run by Glashutte Original brand and is named after the famous teacher and student of the school, Alfred Helwig. Glashutte Original continues to carry its vision forth into the 21st century in the watchmaking business by creating watches that include some new renovations to modernize this collection so that the high-end watch enthusiast can have a sports watch with modern conception and also having a vintage taste.

Today, Glashutte Original SeaQ capitalizes on this rich past to create a new collection in its Spezialist collection which is where you can find the Glashutte Original SeaQ. The design of the SeaQ doesn’t isn’t entirely new to the brand. Between the 1950s and 1960s, the production of the watches was focused on a utilitarian type watch that could be rather accessible. The collection back then was huge and had multiple sorts of timepieces including the “Spezimatic Type RP TS 200.” This watch was developed specifically for sports divers and that actually is where the idea for the SeaQ collection came to fruition.

About the Glashutte SeaQ watches

In 2019, Glashutte Original SeaQ collection was the first group added to the new and sporty collection of dive watches called “Spezialist.” Each watch features a unidirectional, counter-clockwise rotating bezel and a Super-LumiNova covered triangle shape to indicate the beginning time of the dive. The ceramic inlay makes the surface of the bezel exceptionally scratch-resistant. Also, the water-resistance of each of the models is enhanced by screw-down crowns. The collections include a few versions of watches which are the Glashutte Original SeaQ,  the SeaQ Panorama Date, and the limited edition Glashutte Original SeaQ 1969.

The Glashutte Original SeaQ watch features a stainless steel case with a polished and satin-brushed finish, a sapphire glass case back,  a rotating bezel, and Galvanic black with sunray finish, numerals. This timepiece is a great consideration for adventures of all kinds and perfect for divers. The Glashutte Original SeaQ is water-resistant for up to 20 bar and is well equipped to withstand the pressures of deep-water dives. The watch also features a 39.50mm stainless steel case that surrounds a black dial. Functions include a date display, hours, minutes, and seconds. Glashutte Original SeaQ also features a limited edition watch choice. This is watch is significantly close to the original Spezimatic Type RP TS 200. Glashutte Original SeaQ 1969 Limited Edition has a 39.50mm model case size like the Glashutte Original SeaQ watch. The difference to the Original Sea Q watch is that the standard model, which has a steel bracelet, this version will only be available on rubber or synthetic strap. Both watches are available on pin buckle or fold fastener. The watch beats in a stainless-steel case and features a running time of 40 hours, a stop-second mechanism, and a date display at 3 o’clock. Another main difference from the original is the SeaQ 1969 Limited Edition is the look of the dial, which displays the same galvanic black color with sunray finish but with different hands (white luminous material) and different inscriptions. Also, At the 6 o’clock section you can read “25 RUBIS SHOCKPROOF” instead of “Glashutte” which is a reference to the historical model. The mechanics of the watch feature an 8-step fine adjustment mechanism, a water-resistant nylon mesh strap, or a black rubber strap with an embossed design depending on which option you choose.

The polished and satin-brushed stainless steel case measures 39.5 mm in diameter and 12.15 mm thick, and is topped by a unidirectional rotating divers’ bezel. Inside the case is the automatic Caliber 39-11 and beats at 28,800 frequency. The watch also includes a symbolic engraving on the back. As mentioned earlier, The SeaQ 1969 comes with two straps, one in embossed rubber and the other a water-resistant nylon mesh strap developed which was made special for this sporty new collection.

Even though there are few differences between the SeaQ and SeaQ 1969 each watch brings forth a design that represents what Glashutte has been doing for years. As mentioned earlier, The Original Sea Q and the SeaQ 1969 Limited Edition have a few strap options that come with a rubber strap inspired by the pattern of the original watch.
